Are electrical powerlines affecting our health?

This is a hot topic. On one side you will find the power companies stating that everything is fine, and that there is no way that the electricity that is flowing through high tension power lines and eventually ends up in your home can influence you on any level. Then, we have all of the people that go ballistic whenever they discover they the government has made a decision about power delivery and informs the neighbors that instead of burying the power lines, bureaucrats thought it best if they put the power lines overhead. Hmmmm, this battle could last for some time. I am not taking sides on this one at all, I’m simply observing, and inviting all of the wonderful people who visit our blog to share with us their opinion.

When I was studying electronics in technical college we had a brilliant instructor that touched on this subject. He claimed that if you go underneath a high tension power line with a good quality volt meter, drive a metal rod into the ground a few feet, then attach the negative terminal to the rod, and hold the positive lead of the volt meter over your head you could pick up some pretty powerful readings through the air, thus proving that electricity certainly has a ‘leakage’ factor that simply cannot be ignored. There is a long, convoluted algebraic formula that I have tucked away somewhere in my college textbooks that show us exactly how the electrical leakage can happen.

Now, how does this connect with our slogan “everything healthful and helpful for the computer user?” Well, I have included some interesting links for you to consider and I have a feeling that I will be adding to this blog entry in the near future.
Here is a fantastic link regarding electromagnetic influence, and there is even an article on cell phone exposure.
