Take a look at your air ducts!

We have been in our house for 12 years now. The house is now 20 years old, and our air ducts, fresh air returns and furnace piping have never been cleaned. We called the cleaners, they came out and showed me exactly why it was a good idea to clean them. The fellow stood on a stool, cut a hole into the ducting of the furnace and related ducting, inserted a mirror into the hole, then shined a flashlight down the tube and showed me an unbelievable amount of dust bunnies, gypsum board dust, plastic bags that had somehow gotten stuck in the pipes and a lot more.

It was a complete education for me because I had no idea that ducting could contain so much stuff. Apparently, mold can sit inside the pipes and cause some serious health concerns. I was very impressed with the process. So much so that I had my handy hi def video camera and recorded how they hooked up the equipment, used high pressure vacuums and pipes on the furnace side, then pumped in high pressure air through all of the registers and air ducting that ran all through the entire house. Air is one of the things we usually take for granted. Clean air is extremely important, crucial and necessary for proper health. If you own a home based business, your work space should be as healthy as you can make it. Interestingly, the cleaners sprayed an organic substance into the ducts in order to refresh the home and, if i remember the conversation correctly, I’m certain that he mentioned that the substance could also help decrease or help eliminate most if not all of any mold that may be in the piping.
