We have seen ‘Avatar’ in Imax 3D, it was great, but…………….
I loved the experience of driving out to the colossus theater to the Imax. Once there, we were greeted by a nice young man at the door who took our tickets. (Ya, thats another thing, you might want to purchase your tickets online for the show, we thought we could just stand in line, but Avatar quickly becomes sold out) So, we gathered our 3D glasses, attempted to find a seat somewhere in the back of the theater, (that didn’t go so well because the professional movie goers know that the best seats are in the back, especially when the screen is several stories high) Anyway, we sat in the third row from the front and snuggled into high backed comfy chairs.
All I can say about the 3D experience is that I am hooked. Hooked to the point of saying that I could get used to this type of entertainment. I understand that 3D televisions are on the not so distant horizon. There was only one thing that I wasn’t completely enthralled with the entire process, and that was……. hold on, here it comes……. the loudness of the soundtrack. Yup, thats right, It was loud enough to assault my senses, and not in a good way. I completely understand the larger than large phenomenon that is IMAX, but my ears were at times overwhelmed with the volume.
Could it be that because I strive to work and live in as quiet an environment as possible? That is probably one of the main reasons. In our home, we have a THX receiver with OmniCan 6 speakers. In the home, I can set up the ceiling speakers and tweak them to the exact sound level Pat and I both enjoy. The soundtrack in Avatar was so loud that it was not enjoyable to either one of us.
The good news is that 3D television is now here, and it looks like the prices are pretty sweet. Did you go to see Avatar? If you did, we would love to hear your side of the story. Please e-mail us at: healthytechtalk@gmail.com Thank you, regards, Rick and Pat.
