I ‘love’ Plantronics products! New bluetooth headset review.

I have used Plantronics products before, and I have been very impressed. My latest gadget is the Plantronics Voyager PRO bluetooth noise cancelling cell phone headset. We live in British Columbia in Canada, and I am delighted to announce that we have a brand new law in our province that makes it illegal to use a cell phone in your hand while you are driving. I have personally seen semi truck drivers driving both in town and on the freeway with one hand on the shifter, and the other hand has a cell phone in it. But wait! Humans only have two hands. That means that, if you are a professional truck driver, and you are supposed to have both hands on the wheel, then take only one off to shift, and truckers do alot of shifting, then where is the third hand that is holding the cell phone to their ear.

I know. You have to make a decision. Either steer the truck, or shift because you have a cell phone in the other hand. That means that on the road you are an extremely dangerous driver, and that means that you are no longer a professional driver that you thought you were. Some of those trucks weight over 70 tons. Thats over 140,000 pounds driving down the road, ultimately compromising your safety every time they make a cell phone call. Does that sound reasonable to you? Keeping in mind that just a standard tractor trailer rig with a 53 foot trailer is twice the length of a city bus. Does that scare you? Because it sure scares me.

Anyway, now that I have ranted and raved about semi truck drivers, lets get back to the many great reasons you should invest in a bluetooth headset. This headset is one of the most comfortable headsets I have every had. It has an elbow that molds to your ear, and a microphone boom that makes the experience of using one of these headsets much less fatiguing. There are two microphones on the end of the boom. One of them listens to your voice, and the other one listens to all of the ambient noise, then compares the difference and achieves a beautiful balance of voice, noise ratio.

The headset has up to a 6 hour talk time, as well as up to a 5 day standby time. The range is reported to be 10 meters, which means it could go to about 33 feet before losing a signal. Personally, I always prefer a headset that has a boom on it rather than a microphone that sits back and away from my mouth. In the future, I also plan to pair it to my computers with a USB/Bluetooth transmitter that will allow me to use it as a wireless microphone. I have grown to love bluetooth devices very much. As a matter of fact, with our new computer that we have in the TV room, I decided to use a bluetooth based keyboard and mouse because I have heard horror stories about other wireless connections that are notorious for dropping characters and erratic mouse movements.

Here is the link on the Plantronics Voyager PRO. Take a look and give us your opinion. Enjoy. Rick and Pat.
